Blackpool’s time on the road wasn’t particularly eventful over the 2018-19 season, with most games ending in draws or losses. One game however did stand out; the Seasiders’ visit to the Stadium of Light. The game ended in a 1-1 draw but featured a sublime finish from Matty Virtue, a finish that was credited with The Pool’s December Goal of the Month.
Is it Coventry or is it Birmingham? You wouldn’t look a fool for asking that question as Coventry adopted the St Andrews stadium on the day that Blackpool threw away a two-nil lead, ending in a 3-2 defeat.
The game itself was full of promise and expectations for the season ahead. Kaikai opened up the scoring with a sensational side-footed finish and some fantastic play by Callum Guy enabled Sully to add a second.
Unfortunately, Coventry kept responding and pool threw the game away in the dying moments. Perhaps the most painful of defeats was this match when both teams played well. The poor run away from home continued as the seasiders let themselves down through defensive mistakes some questionable goal keeping.
