Fan Opinion: Matty Holford Talks Tangerine

Blackpool fan Matty got in touch with us to share his opinion on how Blackpool will fare this coming season, and we were grateful for his input. This blog is written by Matty Holford, 15.

Matty’s starting 11
Formation: 4-3-3

1. Maxwell 2. Turton 3. Husband 4. Ekpetita 5. McDonald 6. Virtue 7. Anderson 8. Kaikai
9. Hamilton 10. Feeney 11. Yates

Feeney as a right winger, Hamilton as a left winger, Yates down the middle as a striker with Virtue as a holding centre midfielder and two attacking central midfielders in Kaikai and Anderson.

Which player will have the biggest impact this year?

Kaikai in my opinion will make the most impact because of how he was before his injury last season. He’s a quick young lad who wants to do well and his technical ability is just superb. He could be developed further from working with Neil Critchley, as he is known for preparing younger player for the first team as an academy manager.

What position do we need to strengthen this summer?

We desperately need more cover in the centre back position. In League One, you need depth as there are a lot of games, which come thick and fast and injuries will inevitable happen, particularly around Christmas. I was at the Kassam Stadium (Oxford) earlier on in the season with my dad and Thorniley was bullied that day by Marcus Browne so we need to strengthen this position.

I wouldn’t mind bringing a player up from the youth team like we saw with Osayi Samuel five years ago, to give them some much needed first team experience. Critchley has spoken of his desire to work with a younger team.

Away game you are most looking forward to this season?

The away day I’m most looking forward to this season would probably have to be the visit to Plymouth. Me and my dad aim for 10 a season, we haven’t ticked off Home Park yet so that should be class, 14 hour round trip – what away days are made for aren’t they! I am also looking forward to Crewe (The Alexandra Stadium).

Toughest League One opposition?

Finally, the toughest League One opposition next year will be Charlton Athletic. I feel they will be a real challenge, especially with the young talent they have such as Albie Morgan. They have a great mix of technical ability and experience, which is what you need if you want to get out of this league.

  1. Agreed on Thorniley. From what promised to be a decent signing has so far looked to be a mistake, leaving us really short at the back without ever properly replacing Tilt, Robertson, Moore, and presumably Edwards. Furthermore, we never properly offset the loss of Kelvin Mellor and the first time around departure of Bola. McDonald is though one I had overlooked, who undoubtedly has something about him.
